Unify target_cpu handling Over the years several slightly different approaches were used in the Makefiles to determine the target architecture. This change updates both the build system and Makefile to handle this in a consistent fashion. TARGET_CPU is set to i386, x86_64, powerpc, aarch6 or sparc64 and made available in the Makefiles to be used as appropriate. Fix libspl/asm-generic/atomic for VPATH build Currently, asm-generic/atomic.c is compiled into a .S file, with a comment saying this is to simplify the upper-level Makefile. However, this doesn't work properly with a VPATH build, which would require better logic to deal with generated sources correctly. It also doesn't seem more complex to just specify the .c/.S source file, depending on the cpu, instead of only the source directory in lib/libspl/Makefile.am, which eliminates the need to do the intermediate compilation. config: better libtirpc detection Improve the autoconf code for finding libtirpc and do not assume the headers are in /usr/include/tirpc. Also remove this assumption from the `rpc/xdr.h` header in libspl and use the same `#include_next` mechanism that is used for other libspl headers. Include pkg.m4 from pkg-config in config/ for PKG_CHECK_MODULES(), the file license allows this. Include ax_save_flags.m4 and ax_restore_flags.m4 from autoconf-archive, the file licenses are compatible. Use the 2012 versions so as not rely on a more recent autoconf feature AS_VAR_COPY(), which breaks some build slaves. Add new macro library `config/find_system_library.m4` which defines the FIND_SYSTEM_LIBRARY() macro which is a convenience wrapper over using PKG_CHECK_MODULES() with a fallback to standard library locations and some sanity checks. The parameters are: ``` FIND_SYSTEM_LIBRARY(VARIABLE-PREFIX, MODULE, HEADER, HEADER-PREFIXES, LIBRARY, FUNCTIONS, [ACTION-IF-FOUND], [ACTION-IF-NOT-FOUND]) ``` `HEADER-PREFIXES` and `FUNCTIONS` are comma-separated m4 lists. For libtirpc we are using: ``` FIND_SYSTEM_LIBRARY(LIBTIRPC, [libtirpc], [rpc/xdr.h], [tirpc], [tirpc], [xdrmem_create], [], [...]) ``` The headers are first checked for without the prefixes and then with. This system works with pkg-config and falls back on checking standard header/library locations, it can be easily overridden by the user by setting the `PREFIX_CFLAGS` and `PREFIX_LIBS` variables which are automatically added to the `./configure --help` output. Combine libraries: spl, avl, efi, share, unicode. These libraries, which are an artifact of the ZoL development process, conflict with packages that are already in distribution: * libspl: SPL Programming Language * libavl: AVL for Linux * libefi: GRUB And these libraries are potential conflicts: * libshare: the Linux Mount Manager * libunicode: Perl and Python Recompose these five ZoL components into the four libraries that are conventionally provided by Solaris and FreeBSD systems: + libnvpair + libuutil + libzpool + libzfs This change resolves the name conflict, makes ZoL more compatible with existing software that uses autotools to detect ZFS, and allows pkg-zfs to better reflect the official Debian kFreeBSD packaging. Check for strlcat and strlcpy This partially reverts commit 8005ca4 by moving the strlcat() and strlcpy() compatibility implementations back to their original location. In addition, these two functions were added to the AC_CHECK_FUNCS macro. When these functions are available from the C library, HAVE_STRLCAT and HAVE_STRLCPY will be defined and library version used. Otherwise the compatibility version is built. Add FreeBSD support to OpenZFS Add the FreeBSD platform code to the OpenZFS repository. As of this commit the source can be compiled and tested on FreeBSD 11 and 12. Subsequent commits are now required to compile on FreeBSD and Linux. Additionally, they must pass the ZFS Test Suite on FreeBSD which is being run by the CI. As of this commit 1230 tests pass on FreeBSD and there are no unexpected failures. Add proper library versioning The zfs libraries were never properly versioned. Since the API has remained static for quite some time this we never an issue. However, going forward they should be versioned. This commit versions all of the libraries to 1.0.0. From here on out this version must be updated to reflect changes to the library.
